>Meet GLSEN’s Communications Intern

>

Hello! My name is Lisa Lamontagne and I am GLSEN’s Communications Intern for the summer. I attend Hofstra University on Long Island and will be finishing up my B.A. in Video/Television this coming year.

A career goal I’ve been dreaming of, for what seems like all of my life, is to one day be a producer for the “Today” show. Another important goal of mine is to utilize the media, specifically television, to produce programming that entertains its viewers while also educating them about various social issues.

Some of the most vital issues for me involve human rights and being able to live in an entirely equal society, where anybody can get married, adopt children and attend work or school without the fear of being bullied, kicked out or fired.

GLSEN’s mission of “striving to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression” is an imperative step towards achieving a society of equality. This is precisely why I am extremely excited to be interning with GLSEN for the next couple of months.

I hope to combine my knowledge of video/television production and passion for this cause to create PSAs and other short videos for the web. I want to educate students and their families about the bullying towards LGBT youth that is taking place in our schools all around the country and learn how it can come to an end.

Lisa
