>Gay Student Made the Choice to be ‘Silent No More’
>First off, Happy New Year!
To start 2010 off in the right direction, the monthly magazine Teen Ink has published the essay “Silent No More,” by a gay youth whose torment over anti-gay jokes at his expense turned out to be a “blessing in disguise.”
As a high school freshman he was insecure and in a self-professed state of denial when questioned about his sexual orientation, until one day when he decided to make a promise to himself not to allow the constant taunts to silence his potential. With the help of his strong support network of friends and family, and through a conscious effort, he was able to become a confident, goal-seeking sophomore who is now actively involved in his school’s GSA.
