>Beautifuldisastre,
While I take the opposite stance, that being GLB is a choice, I still support it, even being a devout christian. After all, Jesus said the only commandments that are important are to love God and love your Neighbor.

>Actually Anonymous, the ACLU has stood up for religious people in many circumstances before. I don't agree with everything the ACLU does, but this is a great thing. The anti-gay, anti-intellectual, and anti-progress attitude of fundamentalists and other bigots needs to be challenged to the highest degree.

>hilarious that the ACLU supports the rights of gays to gather and contemplate their brethren, but sues when religious folk attempt to do the same in non-instructional time.

>Outlaw teacher activity #1:

I clipped a bunch of fortune cookie sized slips of paper with only the link: www.dayofsilence.org
Then set them around the 6 teacher bathrooms and next to all of the microwaves and sign-in log!

:>)
SJ

>Frequently, schools have rules about what goes up on the school walls--students are often supposed to get flyers approved. So I do urge GLBT groups to make sure they're always following protocol... then nobody can legitimately rip down signs.

>Hey *Anonymous,

Best of luck with your endeavor! I am terribly sorry that your school isn't supporting your GLBT community. Good for you for sticking up for them in the Bible belt, though! I am very serious about my faith, but I am also a GLBT supporter because I know being gay is not a choice, and I do my best to convey this when the issue comes up. I'll definitely call for you tomorrow because I'm assuming the school is not open at this hour.

>I don't know if there is anything that can be done but I live in Melbourne Arkansas(in the Bible Belt) and the Students of Melbourne High School put up signs for the Day of Silence and the Principal ripped them down. I know of one gay male and 2 Bi females at the school. The principal doesn't follow a lot of the legal rules but this is rural Arkansas so that is expected. If anyone out there wants to call the Melbourne School District and respectfully voice your opinion on this matter it might make a couple students feel better about themselves.

(870) 368-7070
