Governor Patterson To Sign State Employment Non-discrimination Bill

GLSEN applauds Governor Patterson's scheduled signing of an executive order tomorrow, December 16, that will prohibit discrimination in New York's state employment on the basis of gender identity. This will make New York the seventh state to offer public employees protection under the law, following in the footsteps of Delaware, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

According to the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund:

47 percent of transgender people report being fired, or denied a job or promotion just because of who they are.

This is historic news for the state of New York and the TLDEF asks that anyone able to attend the signing do so in support of the governors steadfast efforts to support the rights of LGBT people.
